Durable, sunlight-activated coatings for sports, sun, safety and prescription eyewear.

Solar Defog Technology

SDT by Solabs™

Fogging on eyewear obstructs vision and poses inconvenience and safety risks in various situations. Current solutions — sprays and aftermarket coatings — are limited by their short-term effectiveness and lack of durability.

SDT by Solabs™ is the first integrable and completely durable, multifunctional sunlight-activated coating against fog. Solabs improves both fog prevention (4-fold) as well as removal (10-fold) compared to uncoated surfaces. Its unique structure allows seamless combination with other coatings, such as anti-smudge layers, enabling multiple surface functions at once. Solabs technologies are chemical-free, resource-efficient, and built for long-lasting performance — a sustainable solution. SDT by Solabs functions passively even in low light and can be actively triggered by infrared sources to ensure continuous performance.

Launch April 2026

Optray Sky SDT

In collaboration with Swiss sports eyewear manufacturer React, the Optray Sky SDT launched on April 30, 2026 — a seamless fusion of Swiss craftsmanship and two perfectly integrated, high-performance technologies.

The eyewear combines React’s ShadeTronic®, which adapts to changing light conditions in just 0.1 seconds, with Solabs’ Solar Defog Technology. Designed for performance-driven athletes, the Optray Sky SDT features a patented nanocoating incorporating materials such as gold to enhance performance.

“Even during intense climbs and rapid temperature changes, my vision stays clear — and that makes all the difference in competition.”

Lars Forster, UCI Mountain Bike World Cup winner in Leogang 2023 and European Cross-Country Vice Champion 2021
IR Protection Technology — Solabs coating on optical lenses

IR Protection

IR Protection Technology

Sunlight radiation is one of the most important environmental factors affecting the health of the human eye, motivating investigations on the thermal effects of external high-intensity radiation sources and on the photochemical effects of sunlight itself.

The IR Protection Technology delivers added value to customers by providing advanced heat shielding. It selectively absorbs near-infrared (NIR) radiation, significantly reducing thermal stress on the eye. In our academic publication “Adverse effects of sunlight on the temperature of ocular tissues” in the Journal of Thermal Biology, we demonstrate that our coating can reduce thermal stress on the pupil by more than 50%.
